Music and Worship Interim

We have had an incredible Christmas season led by our music and worship ministry, and we continue to be grateful for the many gifted folks who have served our church and city this holiday season! As we begin our transition to new leadership in our music and worship ministry, here is some important information for you to know...
  1. Associate Pastor of Worship and Music Search Team - Our Personnel Committee has requested the formation of a Search Team through our Leadership Enlistment Committee. The members of the team can be accessed here.
  2. Interim Music Ministers - Rather than bringing one music minister in to serve for the duration of the interim, we are going to bring in a few, exceptionally qualified leaders to serve for a period of about two months each. This will allow us to experience a variety of musical gifts and expressions of leadership as we are prayerfully seeking the person to lead our music and worship ministry as we grow as a church at the center of the city.
  3. First Interim - Our first interim will be Tom Tillman. He is the Music & Worship Lead for Texas Baptists (Baptist General Convention of Texas). Originally from New Mexico, Tom has enjoyed being in Texas for 30 years. He has a Bachelor of Music in Church Music from Wayland Baptist University and a Master of Arts from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Prior to February 2016, he served 22 years at First Baptist Church, Conroe as Music & Worship Pastor. He directed and produced the multi-performance “A Christmas Evening” with a 100-voice choir, full orchestra and special guest artist each year including Sandi Patty, David Phelps, Wintley Phipps, Guy Penrod, Point of Grace, Fernando Ortega and many others. He is enjoying his new role working with Texas Baptist churches traveling all over our state as well as doing supply work. Tom is married to Marcia, a Dallas Municipal Judge.  Tom and Marcia have two daughters – Sarah, a University of Texas at Austin graduate serving now as District Director for Texas House of Representatives District 16, and Julia, a Junior at Texas A&M University.
  4. Future Interims - I am very excited about the interim music ministers that we have coming! Each of them are outstanding musicians, gifted leaders, and motivated servants of God’s church. I expect that we will continue to grow and be challenged to worship wholeheartedly both in spirit and truth! Please join me in praying now for our Search Team and for the leader that God is already preparing to send our way to help us to fulfill our “center of the city” mission for the decade ahead!
For the glory of God and the good of others,
Josh Vaughan, Pastor
Columbus Avenue Baptist Church
